Holiday Lights in the Park
You have seen the large nativity set on the corner of Washington (84th) and Lincoln every Christmas. PJWC is the sponsoring organization for the Nativity Scene every year since 19??. This scene is a great service to the community reminding people of the reason for the season.
Derby Ducks
Papillion Community Foundation and Papillion Junior Woman’s Club are partnering this year to raise money for the Papillion Downtown Revitalization Project. This year the two organizations will be sponsoring the first annual “Papio Duck Paddle: A Duck Derby Race” in conjunction with Papillion Days. The Papio Duck Paddle will take place on the Papio Creek, just west of 84th Street on Saturday, June 17, 2006 at 4:30. Ducks will be sold in May and June for $5.00 each or 6 for $25. Prizes will be awarded for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd ducks to cross the finish line. First prize $500 Second prize $200 Third prize $100 Contact any PJWC member or stop by Papillion Flower Patch to buy your ticket.
Arbor Day and Tree City USA
Applied for and received an $800 grant from OPPD to plant trees. Working with the Papillion Public Works and the Papillion Tree Board , six trees were planted in Schwer Park. A poster contest is sponsored by PJWC amoung all 4th grade classes in the Papillion LaVista School District. 1st – 5th place cash prizes are awarded as well as 5 honorable mentions.
Funnel Cakes and “Frickles”
In June during the annual Papillion Days Celebration, PJWC runs a funnel cake booth. The club members prepare, cook, and sell funnel cakes, frickles, and pop. This is one of the club’s main fundraisers and is a big hit with the community.
Kiddie Parade
Each year the GFWC Papillion Junior Woman’s Club sponsors a Kiddie Parade at the Papillion Days celebration. This provides a fun opportunity for children to dress up, march in a parade, and receive prizes. There are around 40-50 entrants and the emcee is usually a local dignitary.
